Re: Sea-Monkeys
Yeah, they're little shrimpy pets. About a centimetre long usually, when they're fully grown. You can buy the eggs online and you add them to water (filtered or boiled, to get rid of yucky stuff) and wait for them to hatch.
Every day, you can air the water with a special pump you can buy, or you can tip the water backwards and forward between two jugs. Most Sea Monkey kits come with food as well, so you don't need to buy it separately until you run out

http://www.sea-monkey.com/ - their website, if you want to see what products they do. I'd order from eBay or Amazon though - cheaper

Re: Sea-Monkeys
I have always believed that these "sea monkeys" are in fact fresh-water shrimps, which I used to see all the time when I was paddling in brooks and streams as a child, looking for fish. They didn't interest me at all and mostly dwelt amongst the weeds. I can't see the appeal, myself.

That's basically what they are, tbh I think they're great pets for kids, as it teaches responsibility.

Re: Sea-Monkeys
Well, yes, they're just little shrimps & you can't do anything with them. But they're good for teaching young children how to look after another living thing & they watch them grow & feed.
When Eleanor was young we couldn't have a dog because her asthma was quite bad at times, so that's what we got!

You & me both!
But I still had to say no, and in fairness it was dad who really didn't want one for a while after Bandit died.

Shrimps it was then! I still think they're boring though
And you can get them for free at your local stream, which makes them cheaper than a dog ....

All we can get at our local stream is old tin cans and mud!

I remember my eldest 2 daughters pleading to get some, and when I did, they were really disappointed, but I was fascinated!

Re: Sea-Monkeys
Many nurseries have pets but we don't. Personally, I don't think a load of scary toddlers is a good environment for pets. We do have a Japanese interactive pony though and the children take turns in grooming and feeding it (it 'eats' carrots then neighs and shakes it's head when it has had too many.)
But, I am thinking about getting goldfish as I have read they can be left over the weekend.

I think goldfish would be a good idea! Doesn't require handling that might injure the pets or children! Pretty to look at, as well!
