Second Opinion Empty Second Opinion

Post by Caryll Wed Jul 27, 2016 10:02 am

My knee's still no better, so I've asked my doctor to arrange a second opinion for me.

I'll need to have an x-ray first, and if that's inconclusive a scan as well. Then a detailed discussion with another surgeon (at a different hospital).

I just want to be able to bend my knee again!!

Caryll, I'm SO sorry your knee is no better after, what, 9 months?

I agree that you need to see someone about it and if necessary, a second opinion.

Make sure (if you can, discuss it with your consultant beforehand because the x-ray technicians will only x-ray what they are told to do) that when you have the x-ray they don't just do a standing-up- straight, front-on x-ray (although that will be included, no doubt). When I first complained about my knee that's all I had, and the results came back as very slight OA, no need for action. But I continued to complain and was eventually sent to a consultant who said he wanted to take x-rays from different angles (including knees bent, as much as I could) and voila - severe OA, which couldn't be seen from the basic standing-up x-ray.

Good luck Caryll, do let us know how you get on.

The x-ray will come first, and I think my doctor has asked for several angles, including weight bearing & flexed.

Fingers crossed that they'll find a reason.

There WILL be reason, they just need to identify it.

Good luck Caryll, do keep us advised.
