Darlings home!

She was doing very well today and they decided she was ready to come home. Her hip is doing really well so the sling is off and she is now just on strict rest, anti-b and pain killers. I've not seen her stand up herself yet, only the front end. But i have a very soft pillow in the crate so might be too unstable for her? It was nice vet who was in and she was just gushing about Lexi, she said she'd really bonded with her and she was the best patient She was telling me how she would go in and sit with her in the kennels if it was quiet to see if she could get her to eat, and she finally did. I'm so happy that she was there, so i'm gonna send her a card in a bit when Lexi is feeling a bit stronger.

She is currently lying sleeping after her dinner, half a can that took 10 mins to eat, but has drank too so i'm happy shes just very sorry for herself.

She does look really sad in the 2nd pic

She doesn't want to leave the crate at all, not that i'm asking her to but i have to bring her out to pee but i brought her out and had the sling on and she just wriggled back into the crate. Think next time ill just have to pick her up and walk her to the garden. Shes drank a fair bit so im sure she will need to go and i don't want her going on her pillow (mums already not happy that she is in the kitchen, she wants her in some back room where noone can see her!)

Poor thing! I'm sure she'll be right as rain, with you to look after her!

Any advice on peeing issue though? Have taken her out twice now, and really don't want to be taking her out too much as im sure it hurts like hell. Second time i carried her to the garden and she stood for a small bit then walked towards the edge of the garden and sat down. I don't know if shes peeing when she does that or just tiring. I think ill phone the vet tomorrow and ask what they did with her lol

Poor thing. It isn't really something I've thought about before, so I don't know what would work. Has she ever used newspaper or urine pads before?

I know you can express a dog's bladder, but I have no idea how and I don't know if it would be the right thing to do for an injured dog.

Oh I wish I had any good advice - it's so difficult to see what they're doing in the dark.

Asking the vet's advice tomorrow is a good idea - in the meanwhile if Lexi is not moving about too much in her crate, maybe putting a thick layer of newspapers under her covered with an old towel which you don't mind boiling or throwing away tomorrow might be an idea?

ill try. I have set my alarm early so I'll sit outside with a mug of tea and her on a towel and hope she pees then cause if she starts peeing inside my mum will kick her out of the kitchen where it is the warmest

If I could have one wish granted tonight it is that your mum cuts Lexi some slack whilst she's feeling so bad.

My mums a dick, don't worry. I can't stand her either. She had a go at me this morning cause dad payed the bill so i can pay him back without interest, and she accused me of stealing his entire nest egg and conning him, and added that lexi doesn't eat like a normal dog just to get a dig at her in. If she had it her way she would have been killed not just hurt. She only fawns over Billy cause her friend gave him to us, so she has to keep up appearances. But its not just an animal thing, if it was me in th cage she would be saying the same things so thats something! lol

Lexi on the other hand is ok, still very down in the dumps and not even wanting affection. Shes been peeing on her towel at night which is good but im going to get some puppy pads in now so shes at least keeping her pillow dry cause it would smell pretty fast. Im not sure if i should have a bigger crate to give her space for peeing and a bed, or just leave her with the pillow as the entire crate..??

I'd leave her with what she's familiar with, to be honest.

The good thing is that her strength should grow now, and she should start to perk up soon! Loads of hugs (((((hugs))))).

Nvm i had to take the pillow out. As soon as i got her towel out this morning she did a biiig pee on the pillow lol so shes on puppy pads and towel for now. I have a smaller one i can put just over the half of the cage but im just worried the cage is too small lol

The crate will probably be fine, if it's what she's used to!

Sounds like you and your mum don't have a very close relationship

She's never been caged in her life but she doesn't seem to mind he crawls back into it so she knows that's home now. Got a pee this afternoon and we're now lying in the sun (her favorite pastime!)

Me and mum are too similar, and she hates dad spending money on me for anything and she tries to make me feel guilty by saying that kind of stuff. I've already paid my first instalment so I dunno why she's so mithering.

That's good, that she's comfortable in there! Sounds like she's having a nice, relaxing day at home!

I don't see the issue with borrowing money for something like this, especially considering you've already started paying it back. I hope you're not feeling guilty!

Still no poo but she is most definitely more confident on her feet, if still very wobbly. She stood for a good 3 mins today cause i was trying to make her poo (still no go) going to phone on Monday and ask for lactulose if there is none tomorrow, shes had three proper meals now and is eating treats so there should be something in there to come out! Walking past the pet aisle in the shop i almost stopped at the bakers!

Word of warning re lactulose - it doesn't agree with everyone (and I speak from personal experience). If I never take it again it will still be too soon and if it doesn't agree with Lexi then, although it will work, it may work in a way that won't endear her to your mum . Unless you are sure that Lexi can tolerate it then I would honestly advise that you ask your vet if there is something that is less violent on the system.

Aww, bless her. Looks like you've made her a lovely bed!

Hopefully she'll pass a movement today, so that it won't come to that.
